Water Rescue

Our Water Rescue team
is trained to provide the following services to the citizens of Davis
County:
- Technical Dive Rescue.
- Swiftwater Rescue.
- Underwater search &
rescue.
- Underwater investigation.
- Cold water search &
rescue.
Training
The DCSAR conducts regular
underwater search, rescue and recovery training in local swimming pools,
ponds, and even in the Great Salt Lake. All SAR officers and team members
cooperate in instructing the various training techniques and classes.
The DCSAR conducts swiftwater
rescue training annually on the Provo and Weber rivers. Every member of
our swiftwater rescue team has been trained in basic swift water rescue.
Basic swiftwater rescue skills covered in our classes including: throw
bag rescue, shallow water crossing, entrapments and vertical pinnings,
line crossing, boat handling, and highline tyrolean tethered boat systems.
Equipment
We utilize a 12 ft Avon Rigid-hull
inflatable boat for operations on the Great Salt Lake. Rigid inflatable
boats are configured with deep-V glass-reinforced plastic hulls to which
a multicompartment buoyancy tube is attached. Our boat is powered by a
40hp gasoline outboard motor. The RI is a versatile craft. Its portability
and ruggedness allow it to be used across many mission areas.
Our underwater rescue &
recovery teams utilize fully encapsulated cold-water dry suits and full
face masks for SCUBA operations under extreme conditions. We maintain
a full compliment of swiftwater rescue equipment, and stock cold-water
exposure suits for operations in sub-zero temperatures.
